With over 400 years of African diasporic presence in Canada, relationships between Black and Indigenous Peoples offered a form of resistance against colonial oppression and afforded these communities an opportunity for survival. This project aims to create written, visual and narrative archives of the geographies, histories, and contemporary realities of mixed Indigenous-Black people in Canada.

The Muslimah Project
Funded by the Women’s Xchange, and in partnership with the Coalition of Muslim Women, this qualitative study consists of focus groups and interviews aimed at understanding the ways in which Muslim women’s experiences of employment precarity in Waterloo Region are shaped by gendered Islamophobia, and the implications of this on the mental health and wellbeing of these women. Our team has produced a community report, and a long organizational report, we have presented at international conferences and we are now in the process of working on manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
